Maiden Voyage is Upon Us

Ta Da! It is finally here... we have been working hard and I can finally see the light at the end of the "Carlos" tunnel. We are leaving this afternoon to take Carlos on our maiden voyage camping trip to Loveland, CO. I am so excited!

Now I can't say that the 1972 Jayco Jay Wren travel trailer is completely finished, but it is about 95% done and totally liveable at the moment (we are still sans drawers and front cabinets to the counter top--Ryan has been procrastinating from doing this part of the project as I am not sure he knows how to make a drawer fit properly! lol)

Nevertheless, take a peek at the "almost" finished project and let me know what you think!

Finished Dinette Area

Finished back corner where the bench folds out for a full bed.

HAPPY CAMPER!

I love my rooster!

No drawers yet... but we will get to that!

Chevron is my favorite. And I love the personal touch of our dinette table.

Kitchen Counter/Prep area

The back corner is the bathroom turned closet!

Thanks for looking! Now we need to start working on painting the exterior. Happy camping. I will post some pics of our camping trip when we get back!

  2. Danielle, I just stumbled across your blog. I am so glad to have found someone else that loves these old campers. I am (trying) to finish up a 1972 Frolic (AKA - the Pink Paradise). I've posted lot's of pics and my trials and tribulations on my blog too. You have done a great job!!! Are you still using her?

  3. What a great job you guys did on your camper. I've been searching sites for ideas for our camper, mainly storage ideas since we hope to spend the entire summer living in it with two dogs! I especially love your dinette table! What Ia great idea! I may have to pin it!

  4. It looks so great. What did you use for the backsplash in the Kitchen Counter/Prep Area? I love it. My husband wants it and would so happy if I could figure out what it is.

    1. Find them here-->http://www.amazon.com/Brushed-Aluminum-Wall-Tiles-Square/dp/B0007MZVDW/ref=pd_sxp_grid_pt_1_1
      They were adhesive tiles that were easy to install... A few of them did need a little extra adhesive due to extreme temperatures the camper has to endure in Kansas; but they have held up well. Oh, and I was able to cut them to fit in the odd spaces with heavy duty kitchen scissors.Hope that helps!

  5. We love your Jayco! About a month ago we purchased a 1976 Jayco Wren and in approx 2 weeks we take our maiden voyage. For now, all we did was re-paint everything, new curtains, covered cushions (ran out of material, had to get crafty real fast). We are living in a 5th wheel in AZ and bought the Jayco to travel around, saving us a lot of money due to our dogs. Once back home we will get serious about the re-modeling the inside, like striping the paneling, etc. But for now it looks cute, inviting and we are looking forward to the 1st trip, then off to Washington State where we live most of the time. Again, great job and thank you very much for posting the before and afters it gave us much needed inspiration.
